Search and Recovery Specialty

Have you or a dive buddy ever donated a piece of gear to the "dive gods".  When you spend time around water, sooner or later, you come across someone who lost something underwater (maybe it's you). If you’re looking for a challenge and a bit of excitement the PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty course is for you. It gives you the skills you need to find what’s been lost, and the means to get it to the surface.

In this course, you learn search and recovery dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and how to deal with potential problems. You learn how to locate large and small objects using different search patterns, and various ways for lifting them to the surface safely. Not only do these skills make you more capable and confident in the water, but most Search and Recovery Divers eventually end up searching for and recovering something they lost themselves.

Prerequisites are certified as an Advanced Open Water Diver, or Open Water Diver and having taken the Underwater Navigation specialty AND some cold water diving experience.

Course Cost is $175 and includes all materials (Book and DVD), the class time, four open water dives, tanks and air fills.  By this point in a divers training it is important that they obtain their own equipment (rentals are available but having your own gear is preferred).  Search and recovery diving specialty equipment (lift bag, line, reels, markers etc) is provided for class use.  A dive light is essential for most diving in PNW waters.

The Learning Materials Included

The Search and Recovery crewpak (DVD and manual) includes everything needed to prepare for the PADI Search and Recovery Specialty course. The manual includes a search pattern reference guide, knot-tying diagrams and an overview of how to organize a search. The video on DVD provides additional information on performing search patterns and how to plan a search in variety of conditions.
