Open Water Diver

HiTek SCUBA's open water diver program consists of three main parts, the first part is the classroom development and includes four, 2 to 2 1/2 hour, classroom sessions. The second part is the confined water training which takes place in a pool and is conducted over four, 2 to 2 1/2 hour, pool sessions.  The third part requires travel to the South Puget Sound area in order to conduct the four open water training checkout dives.

COURSE SCHEDULE: The course can be scheduled in many different ways. One popular method, is to hold the classroom sessions followed by a pool session on four consecutive Saturday or Sunday classes. The general timing would be something like 10 AM to 12 PM class session, followed by a lunch break, followed by a 1 PM to 3 PM Pool session. Then, the weekend after all pool and classroom training is complete all four checkout dives would be conducted over an entire weekend.

In this style of training, the overall course would take approximately a month and a week to complete from start to finish. Generally speaking, an orientation would be held the week prior to the first classroom date. Usually on a weekday at around 7 PM to 9 PM.

For those students who are looking for a more compressed class schedule, another option is to run the class twice a week. The way this works is that a classroom session will be scheduled on a weekday evening, say for example on a Tuesday, from 7 to 9 PM, and then a pool session would be conducted on another weekday evening, say Thursday, again from 7 to 9 PM.  Then on Saturday or Sunday of that same week a classroom followed by pool session such as in the schedule above, would be conducted. This would allow for two modules to be completed per week meaning that the overall course schedule could be completed in as little as three weeks time.

HiTek Scuba is unique in that it schedules its classes to accommodate the students needs. There is no set way to conduct the class schedule, each orientation takes input from the students that are going to attend that specific class as to what style of class schedule suits those specific students. In this way, the course schedule could essentially be custom for each and every class that we teach.  As long as all eight sessions are completed prior to the open water weekend the frequency and specific dates of those sessions really don't matter.

CLASS LOCATION:  because HiTek Scuba conducts classes all over the Portland metro area the class location will  be dependent upon several factors.  HiTek Scuba attempts to hold classes in locations that are near where students live or work in an effort to minimize commute times especially for classes held during the week. In addition, not all pool locations are available at all times, so depending upon which dates and times are selected by the class to best meet their schedule, pool availability during those times can vary. HiTek Scuba has relationships with many different pools and therefore selects the pool that can accommodate the class schedule as set during the orientation.  In rare instances, sometimes specific dates will not lineup with pool availability.  in those cases, we will  work with the students to select an alternate date where a pool is available.
